The Fourth Annual National DAR Day Of Service

Ann Dillon, President General

Throughout the month, and particularly on our 128th anniversary on October 11, DAR members across the country celebrated the National DAR Day of Service by participating in a variety of volunteer activities in their local communities in honor of the anniversary of our founding. Members organized a myriad of service projects throughout the country and I was so excited to see many of your activities shared on social media with the hashtag #DARDayOfService.

You can see photos of a sampling of DAR member service projects in a slideshow here

Chapters did yard work and cleaned headstones at local historic sites and historic cemeteries, made lap blankets and neck pillows for veterans and hospital patients, brought homemade food and goodies to assisted living centers and to first responders and teachers, wrote letters to breast cancer patients and domestic abuse survivors, donated clothing to veterans at stand downs, volunteered in food banks and sponsored food drives, among many other projects.

Make sure to enter your volunteer service hours in the Service to America Online Tally and send your stories and photos to [email protected]. Remember, to report all your service hours throughout the year in the Tally in order to reach our goal. We also love to share your service stories with other members and the public, so keep sending in photos of your activities.

I hope you will continue to be involved in wonderful Service to America projects throughout the year. You are making a significant impact in your communities!
