Let’s Get Educated: Education Awards Ceremony Tonight!

Pamela Wright, President General

I hope you had just as much fun at Opening Night as I did—everyone truly sparkled. I want to thank our honorees: Jonna Mendez, Tetiana Mouzi, Jack Bowman, and David Rencher for making the night truly memorable. Their works encompass the DAR’s values of service and patriotism.

A special thanks to Jillian Pirtle for her performance and the work she is doing to preserve and restore the Marian Anderson Museum. I hope you enjoyed learning about her work and dedication to the home of Marian Anderson. I am so glad we are able to support the restoration of this national landmark. The video about the restoration of the landmark was truly moving. You can watch it again here and donate to the legacy fund and purchase the pin here. I am so thrilled to have one of Marian Anderson’s gowns on display, please stop by this week and see it. I was also impressed with everyone's dedication to service. You can rewatch the volunteer video on our YouTube Channel! If you missed Opening Night or want to experience it again, you can watch the video here!

I hope you all enjoyed trying out the “Relatives at DAR” experience. It’s a crazy thing to see how connected all of us actually are and how We Are—truly—Family! Keep using the Relatives Around Me app all week long! And, remember to stop by the Sparkle Showroom in the JW Marriott, where there is a special photo area to snap a picture with your newly discovered family members!

This morning, we returned to Constitution Hall and began our 132nd Congress business sessions. We heard the reports of our Executive Officers and important business. If you are a delegate representing your chapter, I hope you attended the business session and voted when you are called upon. After the Morning Business Session, I’ll go to the Historic Preservation and Units Overseas Luncheon.

This evening we will celebrate accomplished young people during our Education Awards Night Ceremony. We’ll get to hear portions of the winners’ essays as well as recognize the Outstanding Teacher of American History. After we honor the winners, the All-American DAR Chorus will entertain us with a musical performance. The ceremony will conclude with presentations of the finalists for the Outstanding Junior Member contest. The best of luck to all of those accomplished women! If you aren’t with us in D.C. please tune in via livestream for this exciting award ceremony!
