National Defense Ceremony Tonight!

Pamela Wright, President General

I hope you all had as much fun last night at Sparkle in Service Night as I did! Special thanks to the Service to America Committee for showcasing ways we can all get involved!

Tonight, the National Defense Ceremony is one of our most treasured traditions; it provides a platform from which to salute the people who defend our country. Tonight’s honorees include veterans, active-duty military, JROTC, and those involved in preserving the memories and bettering the lives of service members and their families.

We will honor Lieutenant General Nina M. Armagno, Director of Staff of the United States Space Force, with the DAR Patriot Award and hear from her as a keynote speaker. After, we will have a special presentation about the Military Women’s Memorial by Phyllis Wilson, President of the Military Women’s Memorial and DAR member. We will then honor Mari K. Eder with the DAR Medal of Honor, Major Katie Lunning with the Margaret Cochran Corbin Award, and present the Dr. Anita Newcomb McGee Award to Colonel Renee Howell.

Musical group VERITAS will provide the musical performance tonight and then we will present the DAR Distinguished Citizen Medal to Franklin, Tennessee JROTC members, Drew Osteen, Ellen Grayson, Spencer King, and Immanuel Barr. This year Alice Kraatz, Cynthia Valencia, and John Kinzinger will receive the Outstanding Youth Volunteer, Outstanding DAR Service for Veterans Award, and National Outstanding Veteran Volunteer for their continual practice in preserving the memories and bettering the lives of service members and their loved ones.

This morning, I hope you all remembered to cast your ballot because voting closed at 10 a.m.!  I'm looking forward to tomorrow's installation ceremony.

During our business session, we heard the remaining reports of our hard-working State Regents. Many of you will likely join me at the Junior Membership Luncheon. I am deeply thankful for our Junior Members and the dedicated work they do in their communities. It is always enjoyable to share this special time with the Juniors of today, who will lead the DAR of tomorrow.

Before National Defense Night stop by the Education Breakout Sessions located at the JW Marriott. After National Defense Night, we will toast to the end of Congress and enjoy each other’s company at the Congress Reception!
