Our Rise and Shine Congress is Just Days Away!

Denise Doring VanBuren, President General

The 131st Continental Congress is nearly here! Your bag is packed and you’re ready to go…. but please: don’t leave town until you review these important reminders about the week ahead at your National Headquarters here in Washington D.C.!

  • We have a great lineup of speakers and honorees on tap! Click here to learn about our featured presenters and award winners for our evening ceremonies.
  • Download the Congress app via the App Store or Google Play to your smartphone or tablet to keep the most-up-to-date Congress information at your fingertips. Click here to find out how to install the app.
  • Peruse the Congress schedule for an overview of all the exciting events taking place throughout the week.
  • Visit the online Congress Insider’ Guide to access the Congress Standing Rules, the State of the Society, motions for voting, the Congress Herald and much more.
  • Check-in and onsite registration open on Monday, June 27 at 11 a.m. in the We the People Dining Hall in the lower level of the Administration building. This year’s registration system is new and improved for a faster and more enjoyable experience. By the way, if you didn’t pre-register through the Congress Website by the June 1 deadline, the dedicated members of our Registration Committee will help you do so upon your arrival.
  • Delegates will be assigned a seat in Constitution Hall. Remember to be in place early before the evening ceremonies to enjoy the military band concerts that start at 7 p.m. Once the doors are opened to general admission ticket holders, all seats are considered open.
  • Wear your layers! Keep in mind that because of the nature of Washington D.C. summers and the challenges of a cooling a large and historic building, that temperatures can fluctuate in different parts of Headquarters. It is always a good idea to wear layers, including a wrap. Be prepared for it to be hot (and humid!) outside and cool (to downright chilly!) inside.
  • Many great shopping adventures await you! Throughout the week you will find terrific gifts and other special items! The President General’s Project Sales, Junior Shoppe and DAR Insignia Store will have tables in Constitution Hall. Additionally, the Congress Shops Committee will welcome outstanding vendors to the Texas Lone Star Lounge in the lower level of Constitution Hall. And no visit will be complete without a stop in the newly renovated DAR Store, which will be open throughout the week the lower level of the Administration Building. Our staff is waiting to greet you!
  • Because there are no afternoon sessions, there will be no food sales available at Headquarters. But guess what? There are plenty of convenient options for purchasing food near Headquarters – find some of them here. There will be water stations located around Headquarters and vending machines will be located in the dressing rooms on the lower level of Constitution Hall.
  • Be certain to stop by the DAR Museum Gallery to explore the items on display in the Study Gallery and the Current exhibit, To Supply a Nation: Origins and Impacts of Everyday Things, which focuses on the material culture of early America.
  • Fill out a Continental Congress Press Release Request form so that your local media can be alerted to your members’ presence at Congress.
  • Follow along with Congress Social Media on Facebook and Instagram and use the hashtags #TodaysDARCC #ShareMyDARCC22 #DARCC22 when posting about Congress.
  • Learn more about the 131st Continental Congress Candidates for National Office.

I hope this information helps you prepare for a wonderful week in Washington, D.C. – our first and final time together during this administration. After three long years apart, I am looking so very much forward to welcoming you home again! We are going to shine like never before!

Finally, if you are unable to be with us in person for Congress, please join us by following along via the Congress Herald and the Congress session livestream. As we learned during the Virtual Congresses of 2020 and 2021, there is still much to enjoy about our annual conference even when we cannot be together in person. Why not hold a watch party? Or gather with friends online via Zoom to watch the ceremonies together?

Whether in person or online, I hope that you will join us as we celebrate three years of amazing accomplishments made possible by your devotion to our shared mission! Ladies: we did it!
